Bus Trip 2024 - NOW CLOSED
Part of the Trans-Canada Trail and located on what was once a railroad trestle bridge, St. Thomas Elevated Park is the first and only elevated park to exist in all of Canada! The bridge has stood at the western edge of the city since 1929, a recognized engineering marvel of its era which, at its peak, carried some 50 trains each day, both freight and
passenger. Now open from dawn to dusk as a park, you can take in the view and enjoy the varied artistic sculptures
donated by community artists.
We’ll stop for a short visit at Canadale Nurseries. With an extensive selection of fresh and thriving plants available
year-round, Canadale guarantees that you will find the perfect addition to your outdoor or indoor oasis.
Lunch will be in St. Thomas at the St. Thomas Roadhouse Bar & Grill where you will have the choice of three entrees, dessert, coffee, tea or soft drink.
In the afternoon we will have an outdoor tour of Fanshawe Pioneer Village, a living history museum located on 46
acres of land within the Fanshawe Conservation Area. The museum explores 100 years of history in London and
Middlesex County from 1820 to 1920, through hands-on demonstrations and third-person interpretation. It is divided into four sections, or time periods, which allows you to travel through time as you visit. There is also a variety of gardens, farmland, and natural space throughout the Village grounds.
Finally, we will visit Heeman’s Nurseries. Wander the display garden complete with waterfalls, walking paths, and
water features teeming with frogs and tadpoles. Be sure to treat yourself at the Berry Beanery to a locally roasted
coffee, Berries & Cream Latte, or the famous Strawberry Sundae (or raspberry!) — made from Heeman’s own fresh berries.
Rain gear and sturdy walking shoes recommended.
You may bring boxes to store your purchases under the bus.
